Using digital files pulled from NASA’s archives, French design studio Harow designed a table that replicates the real topology of the moon’s surface. The Apollo 11 Table features a sculpted fiberglass slab in the form of a lunar crater. Covering this thick segment is a layer of resin, which allows one to fully view its dips and crevices while providing coverage to the uneven terrain. The brass and aluminum alloy feet also pay homage to the many Apollo missions, parts that put a modern spin on the Lunar Excursion Module‘s original landing pads.

This fun table designed by Juno Jeon adds an unexpected twist to one of the most common pieces of furniture: a simple drawer. Covered with a dense grid of scale-like plates the drawer appears to bristle as you open it, flipping each consecutive set of scales to the reverse side. The “Pull Me to Life” table was designed as part of Jeon’s “Movement” series where he imagined what reactions different pieces of furniture in his house might have if they were living creatures. You can see more of the designer’s furniture concepts on Designboom.

Designer Alexandre Chapelin of LA Table designed this intriguing series of three tables he refers to as Lagoon Tables. Each table is formed from a carved travertine base to which he adheres a special resin that forms volumes of water that appear to slice through each piece. The tables are undoubtedly influenced by Chapelin’s immediate surroundings on the small Caribbean island of Saint Martin where his studio is based. You can see more of his work here.
