Using thousands of handcrafted porcelain shards, Israeli born artist Zemer Peled (previously here and here) produces large-scale sculptures that are densely textured. The works change depending on one’s stance, at once looking as if they are made with soft feathers or sharp spines. In either circumstance the pieces reflect the natural world, imitating swirling wind patterns or rolling planes of grass.

Chilean textile artist Serena Garcia Dalla Venezia creates thoughtfully composed arrangements of hand-sewn fabric balls, producing texture and depth by grouping together dozens of differently sized and shaped spheres. Appearing almost like organic growths, her works seem to be transforming before your eyes, which makes sense when you consider her fascination with accumulation and chaos. You can see more of Venezia’s smaller works and large-scale installations on her website. (via The Jealous Curator)

Since we last visited with artist Brett Kern (previously), the West Virginia-based ceramicist has continued to produce new models of his ingenious inflatable toy dinosaur sculptures. Kern has added “baby” versions of Plesiosaurus, Carnotaurus, and T-rex to his lineup, and earlier this year released a few pieces in gold glaze that were made available for auction. You can see more in his Etsy shop, and he shares tons of process videos and photos on Facebook.

In the Polish city of Pruszków you’ll find the Gallery of Steel Figures, an entire museum devoted to dozens of sculptures built from scrap metal salvaged from a local scrapyard. Their most recent addition is a collection of four iconic cars designed and built by roughly 50 artists over the last 5 years. The models include a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, a Bugatti Veyron, a Maserati GranTurismo, and a Lamborghini Aventador. The steel vehicles are built completely to scale and include functional doors and replica interiors. The Gallery of Steel Figures also has wide array of imposing Transformers and other pop culture figures from TV and film. You can see more car details on Carscoops. (via @menujusenja)

For artist Amy Genser, paper is pigment. The Connecticut-based artist cuts, rolls, and arranges countless tubes of mulberry paper mounted to Masonite boards to produce vibrant reef-like canvases. The tightly rolled papers perfectly mimc the forms of sea coral that appears to grow organically in every direction across (and on the sides of) each canvas. Since we last explored her work several years ago Genser was commissioned to create a massive 150 ft. mural for the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and has exhibited all across the US and Europe with Elisa Contemporary Art and Galerie NUMMER40. You can see more of her recent work in her portfolio.
